| Description | |
| Philips Super Duplolux , “La Nouvelle Lumière Jaune” Rare enamel advertising sign for the Philips Super Duplolux Selectiva, Philips innovative automotive headlamp introduced in the 1930s. The sign depicts a caricatured motorist in a striking modernist design. With his foot, he appears to be literally pushing aside the traditional, dazzling white light, symbolizing the transition to the new, softer yellow light of the Super Duplolux. The Super Duplolux was a remarkable automotive lamp featuring two filaments, the so-called “Duplo” system with an integrated shock absorber designed to protect the filaments against vibration. The lamp was fitted with ribbed yellow glass. Its yellow light was more comfortable for the driver and less disturbing to oncoming traffic, particularly in foggy conditions. The advertising campaign referred to this innovation with the slogan “La Nouvelle Lumière Jaune”, meaning “The New Yellow Light.” Because of its exceptional graphic design, high-quality manufacture, and historical significance, this advertising sign can be regarded as a true masterpiece produced by Emaillerie Koekelberg in the 1930s. Rare version, dated 1935. |
